thebiketube.com A vital step in bicycle wheel building is prepping the spokes with some kind of spoke prep. There are two reasons to prep spokes: 1. Provides lubrication while you are lacing and truing the wheel 2. It becomes like a thread-lock after it the wheel is laced. You can use prep that is manufactured specifically for wheel building or Linseed Oil. They both work well. When building a rear wheel where spoke lengths differ, it's important not to mix the spokes. For this reason, Wheelsmith Spokeprep comes as two colors spoke prep. You use one color for the drive side spokes and the other for the non-drive, which helsp keep them separate when you lace the wheel. Linseed Oil can be found at a local hardware store or Art shop (its used to thin oil paints). The point of spoke prep is to provide some lubrication when lacing and truing the wheel and then to act as a bit of a thread-lock to keep spokes from easily loosening. Whith spokeprep it's important to not use too much. Dip it just to the threads and then roll the excess off.

Bicycle Trailer Review

Bicycle Trailer Review
This article will give you a useful bicycle cargo review; one of the very useful utilities for a bicycle that will allow you to carry cargo that you can't carry using a bicycle rack. Transporting a cargo using a bicycle is not a problem with the invention of bicycle trailers. These trailers are usually nothing but a wheeled frame without any motor. This is attached to a bicycle; expanding its capacity of carrying luggage. It is far more powerful and useful than a bicycle rack since it can tolerate approximately half a ton weight. It can be used to transport objects measuring up to 3 cubic meters.
Major Components of a Bicycle Trailer
A bicycle trailer is a separate utility and has got many vital components like:
* Axle: Just like a bicycle, a trailer has got separate axles for its wheels. Threaded nuts are usually used to mount these axles on to the frame of the trailer. Technically, the base of the carrying area of a trailer is kept below the axles in order to decrease the centre of gravity. * Frame: The frame of a trailer is either a metal frame of a wood frame. If metal frame is being used, it uses aluminum or steel alloy. Another rarely seen frame is the wood frame. Usually bamboo and other materials are used in these frames. * Mud Guard: An optional facility that some trailers may provide for keeping the dirt and other road sprays out of the luggage loaded on the carrier. * Wheel: Wheels used in trailers are usually ordinary bicycle wheels of varying sizes. In order to provide effective suspension for the luggage, Pneumatic Tires are used. Dolly wheels are also considered to be very durable but they bring the disadvantage of rough ride because of the limitation of diameter. * Hitch: Some trailers, depending upon their type; single wheel or two wheels, use various frame hitches. For instance, a single wheel trailer uses a hitch that can be attached to the rear axle of the bicycle. Whereas, hitches for a two wheel trailer have to use a special universal joint to keep the trailer always in the upright position.
Two Major Types of Bicycle Trailers
Various trailers are used for varying purposes. You can distinguish between various types of trailers with respect to their number of wheels, the potential cargo they can carry. Some trailers have got one wheel mounted on the rear axle of the bicycle. The best advantage it provides is the stability in comparison with a two wheel trailer. It offers high speed as compared to two wheel trailers.
On the other hand, you have two wheel trailers which don't provide you with the speed that a single wheel trailer provides but offers much more carrying capacity. However, since it is wider than a single wheel trailer, the probability of hitting objects while riding is greater.
You can also divide trailers in to various types depending upon what they can carry. For instance, some trailers are meant for carrying general cargo while others are used to carry little passengers as a cargo or as a rider. It can also be used for disabled passengers or for pets. The use differs from person to person.

Bicycle Seats - The Importance of Finding the Right Bike Seat
If you want to loose weight or if you just want to add exercise to your daily routine, biking is a great idea. If you are new to biking you may not know what type of bike to buy so you may take advice from the bicycle shop and get a high end bike only to be surprised later that the seat isn't very comfortable.
Potential Problems With The Wrong SeatThis isn't that uncommon as it is hard to find a one size fits all bike seat. If you really want a comfortable saddle, in more cases than not it is best to do a little research and buy one separately. If the seat doesn't fit your body correctly it can cause irritation and chaffing. Even if it doesn't cause these problems if it is too uncomfortable it will keep you from riding very often. How sad to buy a new bicycle and not want to ride it. Luckily just by getting a new bicycle seat you can easily address this.

To find out if it fits your anatomy make sure your sit bones sit in the center of the pads in the large area of the bicycle seat. Your sit bones are the two bones you feel when you sit on a hard surface, they support your weight when sitting.
The bike seat you purchase should also fit your riding style and bike style, for example if you have a cruiser with the handlebars sitting above where you sit and you know you will only use it for leisurely rides you will need a different bicycle seat than if you had a racing bike and you were going for speed.
There are different bicycle seats for men and women too because they have different physiology. Women tend to have a wider pelvic structure than men so they need a slightly wider saddle.

How to Protect Yourself While Bicycling on the Roadways
Go on-line or to the DMV office and get a copy of your state's Driver's Manual. Read and pay close attention to sections pertaining to bicycle riders. Before jumping onto your bicycle and riding down the road, check the tire pressure, check your chain, check your brakes, and strap your helmet into place on your head.
Safety Equipment: Head lights and taillights are critical for your safety and others who are sharing the roadways with you. Wheel spoke reflectors, neon pant leg ties and pedal reflectors are extremely important safety features for you. Reflective vests really enhance the visibility of bicycle riders, both day and night. Side mirrors can be added to the handle bars, or to the riders' helmet. These items increase the rear vision of the bicycle rider. "Bell-shaped" or "Full Face Helmets," similar to motorcycle helmets provide crucial protection for your head and neck.
In order to communicate your intentions to other drivers, you need to use proper hand signals one hundred feet before turning the corner. If you fail to make it known to other drivers, in advance of your intentions, failing to make your intentions known surprises other drivers. Turning without warning could cause a serious accident. Pedestrians and bicycle riders need to cross the street inside the cross walk, when their light permits.I recently was driving my car when a nineteen year old man ran a red light, crossed four lanes of on-coming traffic. I did not see the rider until he was in front of the car to my right. I swerved to my left to miss him, but unfortunately my right front bumper hit his rear tire. Thank you, Dear Lord and Savior for sparing this young man's life. I am grateful beyond words to report that this young man's "bell-shaped" bicycle helmet saved his life. But, if he had been wearing a "full face" helmet, he would not have had to have stitches in his chin.
Self Defense Weapons: Warning, women need to carry self defense weapons while riding bicycles in areas not well lit after dark, or when riding on paths where others are not around. If you ride in secluded areas, don't ride alone. Either carry pepper spray, stun gun, or a personal alarm for self defense.
Safety Awareness: The Traffic Division in my home town has partnered with the Bicycle Transportation Alliance (BTA) in an effort to increase bicycle riding awareness.
Every day I see at least one bicycle rider violating the traffic laws by running a stop light, stop sign, riding on the wrong side of the street or on the sidewalk. People who ride without a bicycle helmet, headlights, or taillights while riding a night, are common occurrences. Future accidents await people who practice unwise riding behavior. All riders must see themselves as vehicle drivers subject to the same laws as motorized drivers.
Conclusion: Remember, what happens to you affects many others as well.

To access Smoke and Mirrors head down B-line until you get to the snowmaking pump station where the After Atlantis turn off it. Head down After Atlantis for 50-75 metres and the trail is on your right. This trail has a type of North shore feel to it, except the bridges are wide and most of the time not to high of the ground. The first half of this trail is great for beginners and intermediate riders to overcome there fear of wood, while the second half is a little more technical, with some of the bridges being roller coasters and a little skinnier. If you feel like more wood after this trail go on to Devils Club, if not have a burn on Ho Chi Min or B-Line or have some white nuckle funon Crack Addict.
